Why We Don’t Purchase Lower Value Equipment

If you’ve requested an offer from us you might have received a response that included the term “minimum value threshold”.  Our minimum value threshold is the dollar amount at which we no longer purchase any particular item.  Generally it’s around $200 used retail value.  If an item sells for less than that amount used we generally don’t buy it.

You wouldn’t be alone if you thought that we simply purchase gear, sell it for a profit and pocket the money.  If only it were that easy!  In all actuality there is a cost of doing business that comes along with every item we sell.  If we buy a camera we’re either paying to ship it to us or we’re sending someone to go get it. Once we receive it we test it, clean it and take pictures.  Then we create an ad for it and write a description specific to that item.  Once it sells we test it again, pack it and ship it.  In addition to these costs, we also pay eBay fees, Paypal fees, credit card processing fees, we buy packing material and we pay for shipping.

All of this comes with a cost and while we can wrap that cost into more expensive items, it’s impossible to do on inexpensive items.  There are many cases in which we could potentially have someone give us a $100 item for free and after the cost of doing business, paying fees and covering shipping, we’d lose money.

We hope this gives a bit of insight into why we might not buy specific gear.
